1 head of cabbage Soy sauce 1 cup sugar 1 stick real butter (salted) 1/4 cup water fat drippings (onions optional) Cast iron skillet(deep)
Chop cabbage, let drippings heat up on medium heat, add 1/2 of butter, 1 cup sugar, and 5 tablespoons of soy, (and onions if desired). Make sure pan is hot enough and add 1/2 head of cabbage.
The cabbage will get caramelized, once this happens then add rest of cabbage and butter. Cook down. You only want some of the cabbage caramelized and if the cabbage is not fresh meaning its been in market or fridge you may have to add 1/2 cup water.
The saltiness of soy and sugar will go together well, I sometimes add crumbled bacon or fat back after it is finished.
