If you're an early riser, you just have to learn how to make a good pot of coffee.  If you're like my wife an early morning pot of coffee is one of those must have things before truly starting the day.  Since I'm usually the first out of bed I always head to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee which is always welcomed.

Enough about me and the wife.

What's the first thing your body craves when you wake up in the morning?

A strong cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Why? It wakes you up.

Coffee somewhat prepares you for the day ahead and gives you that special something you need to get going so that you can get out of the house.

That being said, the worse thing that could happen is to wake up, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and ugghh!.....it taste horrible.  It happens to even the best, however to avoid such an early morning mishap here is how to make a good pot of coffee.

4 Steps to Making Good Coffee

  1. You need to buy a decent bag of coffee. I prefer either French Roast or a similar bold flavor (Your favorite brand will do as long as its good quality). You can buy ground or whole bean. Even better, if you have a coffee grinder, you can easily grind your own coffee.
  2. You need a really good stainless steel percolator. Or, if you already have the automatic drip coffee maker, it will work just as well.
  3. This is important, the rule of thumb to making a good cup of coffee is one hefty teaspoon of coffee grounds for every two cups of water. Most coffee cans come with a scoop that you could use as well. However, if you like your coffee strong, you may go a different route adding one or two teaspoons or scoops per cup.
  4. Whether you're using a percolator or an automatic drip coffeemaker, the same rules apply.

Brewing Directions for a Percolator

Let's begin with the percolator. Fill the coffee pot with cold water up to the designated line that is marked inside the pot. Next, add your ground coffee to the basket. Place the basket inside the pot, cover it and set the coffee pot on the stove. Begin with medium to high heat, then lower the temperature when boiling begins.

Percolate for about 5-6 minutes (or longer if you desire strong coffee). Turn off the heat, let the coffee sit for a minute or two until percolating stops. Now your coffee is ready.

Brewing Directions for an Automatic Drip Coffee Maker

If you are using an automatic drip coffee maker, fill the glass container with very cold water to the desired amount of cups you wish to make.

Next, open the lid to the reservoir and pour the water into it. Next, set the coffee filter into position (some automatic drip coffee makers come with their own filters). Add the ground coffee to the filter, depending on how strong you want the coffee to be - add one to two teaspoons per cup.

Press the start button/or place it in the on position. Your coffee should be ready in about 10-15 minutes.

In any case, while the coffee is brewing savor the smell and aroma. Once you get your first cup down, I'm sure you'll agree with me saying "nothing in this world is better than a good pot of coffee!".

Okay by now you have read all our tips on how to make a good pot of coffee.  The only thing left for you to do is to take action and get in the kitchen to try your hand at making a pot of coffee.
